Homebound

Homebound

Homebound is a photography project that portrays the environment of Zoe Nguyen's early adulthood alone in a different country, which she has captured through her eyes as a foreigner. Within the limitations of her camera frame, Zoe thought of the "idealistic" American scenery as a slice of the American dream pasted onto a street, found in the little corners of small-town America with vibrant colors. This life she has been living is entirely different from where she grew up. Back in Vietnam, she woke up every early morning to the sound of clanking pots and pans, the butchers' knives, the street callings, and gossipings from vendors. Everything changed when she moved to America at the age of 17. The American neighborhood scenery to Zoe is liminal and unrealistic, where she constantly finds herself staring down the empty street of a labyrinth-like neighborhood with identical houses as though she is living a fictitious life.
